Track loader or excavator: which should you rent?

In short: Rent a compact track loader such as the Kubota SVL75-3 for pushing, carrying, grading, mulching and brush work with attachments. Rent an excavator such as the Kubota KX080-5 for digging trenches, ditches, footings and drainage and for taking out stumps. Bigger jobs often call for both.

What each machine does best

A compact track loader works at ground level. The Kubota SVL75-3 pushes, carries and levels material, and with the right attachment it mulches, cuts brush, grinds stumps and handles pallets and bales. An excavator works below and around itself: the Kubota KX080-5 digs deep, swings, and reaches.

  • Kubota SVL75-3 track loader: forestry mulching and brush clearing; grading, leveling and gravel driveway work; moving dirt, gravel, mulch and debris; fence-line work, post holes and old wire removal; pallet and bale handling.
  • Kubota KX080-5 excavator: digging, trenching and drainage work; footings and building pads; ditches, swales and culvert installs; stump and tree removal; loading trucks and moving material.

Skills and safety

Operating either machine takes skill, and mistakes are costly and dangerous. We ask about your experience on every request. If you are new to it, we will talk through whether renting is a good fit or whether a bid for the work makes more sense. Whatever you rent, call 811 and have underground utilities located and marked before any digging.

Getting it to your site

Both machines are heavy and need a properly rated trailer, a suitable truck and the right hitch. You can add our 20 ft gooseneck equipment trailer to the booking, or have a machine delivered for a fee. The equipment pages list weights and hauling notes for each unit.

Common questions

Can I rent just an attachment, without the machine?

Yes, for the track loader's attachments. If you already have your own loader, rent only the attachment, bring a machine that can mount and run it, and pick it up from us. We do not deliver attachments on their own.

How many hours are included in a rental?

Machines include 8 engine hours per day, 40 per week and 160 per four weeks. Extra hours are billed per hour at the rate shown for each machine.

Do I need experience to rent a machine?

We ask about your experience on every request. If you are new to it, we will talk through whether renting is a good fit or a bid for the work makes more sense.
